Stanley J. Somer
Mr. Somer is the Managing Partner and founding Member of the firm. He brings over forty years of experience to his role at Somer & Heller LLP. Mr. Somer received his undergraduate degree in accounting from Hofstra University and his law degree from New York Law School. Upon graduation from New York Law School, Mr. Somer was invited back as an instructor. He lectured at the law school for several years on legal research, brief writing and oral argument, in addition to working in private practice with various firms and being in house counsel to the Heatherwood Organization.
In 1974, Mr. Somer opened his private practice and has been practicing primarily in Suffolk and Nassau Counties since that time. Initially, Mr. Somer focused the practice on representation of many of Long Island’s major real estate companies, both commercial and residential. Over the many years that he has been serving his clients, he has expanded the practice into a true general practice law firm, specializing in various areas of law and rendering services to individuals, small businesses and public and private corporations.
Mr. Somer devotes much of his time to matters involving: landlord/tenant disputes; lease drafting and negotiations; condominium, cooperative and homeowner association representation; condominium and cooperative foreclosure; real estate transactions; business formation and corporate mergers & acquisitions; and estate planning, wills and trusts. In all areas of his involvement, Mr. Somer maintains a close, hands-on role with clients. Despite the complexity of the many matters he handles, he is adept at explaining difficult concepts in easily understood terms.
Also noteworthy in Mr. Somer’s professional background is his direct involvement in the formation of many businesses. Reflecting a wide range of industries of which Mr. Somer has been affiliated, these organizations include Long Island Commercial Bank and Gold Coast Bank of which he has been founding members of.
Mr. Somer is admitted to practice in the Federal and State Courts of New York, as well as the United States Supreme Court and United States Tax Court. He is a member of the New York State and Suffolk County Bar Associations and is the Co-Chairperson of the Landlord-Tenant Committee of the Suffolk County Bar Association.
Mr. Somer resides in Asharoken and Manhattan with his wife of 25 years. In his time away from the firm, he enjoys traveling abroad and spending time with his three grandchildren.
